Dr. Bo Ying is the founder, chairman and CEO of Abogen, a clinical-stage biotech company focused on delivering transformative medicines through RNA innovation. Since itselfestablishment in 2019, Abogen has quickly become an industry leader in mRNA therapeutics globally and was rated as one of the top 500 companies in China by Hurun.
Dr. Bo Ying is a widely recognized scientist with almost 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. At Abogen, he led the team that successfully advanced ABO1108 from IND clearance into Phase III clinical trials, making it the world’s first lyophilized mRNA shingles vaccine to reach this critical clinical stage. Prior to founding Abogen, he had held various roles in leading biopharmaceutical companies in Boston including Dicerna (an siRNA company acquired by Novo Nordisk in 2023), Moderna Therapeutics and Trucode Gene Repair (PNA-based gene editing), and he has led teams in formulation research, process development, technology transfer and manufacturing for both siRNA and mRNA drugs.
Dr. Bo Ying has a bachelor’s degree from Fudan University in China and a Ph.D. from Northeastern University in Boston. His work has been published in top peer-reviewed journals such as Cell, Lancet Microbe, Cell Research, and he is the inventor of over 150 patents and patent applications.
